What is it?

Rough & bumpy skin, also known as Keratosis Pilaris (KP), occurs when keratin builds up and blocks hair follicles. It often appears as small, rough bumps, usually on the arms, thighs, buttocks or cheeks.

Common Causes

  • Build-up of keratin (dead skin cells)
  • Dry skin
  • Genetics
  • Skin barrier dysfunction
  • Certain skin conditions (eczema, atopic dermatitis)
  • Hormonal changes
  • Cold, dry weather
  • Friction or tight clothing

Prevention & Care

  • Exfoliate gently 2–3 times a week
  • Moisturize daily to keep skin hydrated
  • Use products with urea, lactic acid or salicylic acid
  • Avoid harsh scrubbing or picking the bumps
  • Take lukewarm showers and avoid hot water
  • Use gentle, fragrance-free body care products
  • Wear breathable fabrics
  • Protect your skin barrier
  • Be consistent with your skincare routine
